Hello new user and welcome to Wikipedia. A few tips for you:

Thanks for the advise.

-- Matty j 19:12, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Hi Matty, I noticed you have contributed to many bios of MLB players, I'd like to ask for your opinion whether it's time to move the rewritten Baseball/temp to Baseball. Please comment at Talk:Baseball/temp. Thanks. 大将军, 都督中外诸军事 (talk) 01:56, 24 Dec 2003 (UTC)

You deserve every one of those 4 wikis for Glenn Beck! --Merovingian 09:33, Jan 4, 2004 (UTC)

Shucks... thanks ;-). -- Matty j 16:56, Jan 4, 2004 (UTC)

Hello, I just wished to inform you that I created Kevin Millwood. I hope you find it satisfactory enough to authorize a transfer of Wikimoney. -- Lord Emsworth 17:57, Jan 10, 2004 (UTC)

Generally, whatever the giver thinks is appropriate will be sufficient, for if the reward is too low, others will not take up the offer. Also, in general, when multiple articles are being requested, it is the standard practice to offer a slightly lower amount for each one. This way, the opportunity to earn more makes up for the lesser amount for each individual article. -- Lord Emsworth 22:25, Jan 10, 2004 (UTC)

Hi. I wrote Mike Terrance Cameron. I think it is exactly what you want to see, so I transferred 1 Wiki from your WikiBank account to my account. Your account had 23 Wikis and now has 22. .'. Optim 18:51, 15 Jan 2004 (UTC) .'.

Hi! I don't exactly know how these "Wikis" things work, but I created an account of ψ0 at the WikiBank, and I have previously written an article on Mark Belanger. I gather it would be up to you whether or not to transfer ψ1 to my account...care to take a look when you get the chance? Thanks! - Scooter 14:27, 28 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I was interested in your removal of my minor revisions of the Liberal sponsorship scandal article. I had changed the opening sentence because I don;t think defining a scandal as a scandal is informative, and because the scandal is not over (which means it is a scandal rather than was one). As i said, this is a minor issue, but it would have helped if you'd explained the reversion. I might not be bothering this not if you had, for example. I've edited your new opening again, but if you want to revert to your original version I'm not going to get into a reversion war. I don't really see how my changes harmed the article, though. Trontonian

Matty, I wrote an article on Brian Roberts. I hope you like it and give me a wiki for it. BTW thanks for the cycle page. Didn't know if was that rare. Yardcock 02:35, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)

New baseball articles

[edit]

Matt, I'm too new to start getting WikiMoney under the rules (I only got my account late last week), but I've dived in already and written up bios on Ralph Kiner and Wilbert Robinson. Just thought you'd like to take a look. CharlieZeb 01:43, 4 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Just finished up with Joe Tinker, have a look. Gamaliel 03:30, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)

interested in starting a baseball wikiproject?

[edit]

I looked at some of the wikiprojects and I think it would be a good idea to have a baseball wikiproject to keep baseball player's bio's & other baseball pages consistent. Having something like an 'infobox' (like Wikipedia:WikiProject_snooker) for standard biographical info would be a good way to keep standard things in the same place. So far I've talked to Indrian about this and he was interested in doing it (see his talk page). I was wondering what other baseball contributors thought about the idea. It would also be a good way to agree to what categories there should be, what baseball articles need to be worked on, images that are needed, etc. Please reply as to whether you would be interested in working on this with us. Thanks! - Mattingly23 00:38, 13 Aug 2004 (UTC)

p.s. I've also sent this message to MusiCitizen, please tell other wikipedians you think would be interested and get their repsonses as to whether or not they would want to do this.

Abortion in Canada

[edit]

I was making some rather broad copy-edit changes to this article while you were doing the same; my merge attempts quickly spun out of control and I committed what resulted. Please feel free (of course) to re-edit anything as you see fit.

--Marcie 22:15, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)I'll go and look it over. Some of the reedit on the political parties was very good i thought. The discussion page is full though...how is that dealt with. I'm still learning Wikipedia. I've looked at the instructions on how to link but i don't get it...maybe you could help? For example the Canadian page mentions chemical abortions. The main page on abortions has a summary of what a chemical abortion is (i helped work on that one). The thing is i don't know how to link them. If you could print out how you might link them it might help me figure it out...

Thanks for the comments. I'll try to watch the capitalization. I traditionally have used small "i" in all my email. Sorry 'bout grammar...i'll try to improve on it. I have looked at the edits for the links ( i figured maybe i could get it that way, i often learn by seeing---thanks for the suggestion on how to pick more of it up).

Also thanks for telling me where the biographical stuff goes. I still need to find the way to get there (smile...i know you got it in there, i need to figure it out) but i appreciate the heads up. And I hadn't noticed folks signed at the end not the beginning although it seems obvious now!--Marcie 01:45, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

baseball franchises

[edit]

You made Boston Beaneaters into a redirect to Atlanta Braves. This is a decision I fully support. I think it is the correct protocol for MLB teams. There is currently a debate raging at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Montréal Expos, and so far the redirect solution is losing. I think it is because some of the users don't fully understand how franchises work in MLB. If you have the time, maybe you could chime in on the conversation there. expos/nationals debate

[edit]

There is a major debate going on, and I wondered if you might want to chime in. The debate involves how to deal with franchise moves in baseball. The question is whether Montréal Expos should be its own article or if it should redirect to Washington Nationals. All other instances of franchise moves in MLB redirect the old team name to the new team name, and the history of the franchise is covered within the new team name (for MLB, NBA and NFL examples, see here. Some people are confused and think the Expos and the Nats are different teams. Some people don't want to upset Canadian readers.

Indeed, the Washington Nationals are not a new team - the Montreal Expos franchise has moved to Washington, and the old franchise name should redirect to the new franchise name, just like the 20+ instances of this occuring in Wikipedia. For example, Brooklyn Dodger history resides in the Los Angeles Dodgers article. New York Giants history, including the Shot Heard 'Round the World, resides in the San Francisco Giants article.

If you have the time, maybe you could chime in on the conversation there, Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Montréal Expos. Kingturtle 17:22, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Burford

[edit]

I worked at the high school for a year. Being a 'city' person, living in or close to Toronto and Detroit all my life, I was impressed by Burford and the students. It gave me a glimpse of small town life. The little blurb in the article is just from a scrap of prose I had scribbled around with.--Mikerussell 03:04, 2005 Jun 23 (UTC)

Cut & Paste Edit

[edit]

Thank you for helping with disambiguation efforts by turning Vernon Wells into a disambiguation page. Unfortunately, during the process of doing this, you made a rather problematic error by cutting-and-pasting all of the former article content to a new article. Under the GFDL which Wikipedia uses, we must include contributor histories for all of our articles, and cut-and-paste moves cause problems for us.

For future reference, a possible method of avoiding this would have been:

 1. Move Vernon Wells to Vernon Wells (actor)
 2. Turn the redirect page at Vernon Wells into the disambiguation page

Regardless of this, do keep up the good work. Rob Church Talk | Desk 00:24, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just to keep you up-to-date, what I wound up doing was this:
 1. Reverted Vernon Wells back to the actor content
 2. Added a disambiguation notice at the top of Vernon Wells referring to the baseball player
 3. Have Vernon Wells (actor) deleted
In cases where there's only two or three people by one name, it makes sense to disambiguate on the pages themselves. Rob Church Talk | Desk 00:43, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User Categorisation

[edit]

You were listed on the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Ontario page as living in or being associated with Ontario. As part of the Wikipedia:User categorisation project, these lists are being replaced with user categories. If you would like to add yourself to the category that is replacing the page, please visit Category:Wikipedians in Ontario for instructions.--Rmky87 03:56, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Canada

[edit]

Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 17:11, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vernon Wells

[edit]

Hey...I was wondering about the Vernon-David thing too, but I left it in because the same information is on the David Wells page. I'm trying to hunt down proof of it but can't seem to find any not linked back to Wikipedia. Anyways, you're probably right to remove it, I'll let you know if I stumble across evidence of it. Schrodingers Mongoose 05:44, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ps: I was able to complete your mission from last year to make Vernon the ballplayer rather than Vernon the unknown actor the link from "Vernon Wells" searches. Good call. Schrodingers Mongoose 05:46, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies

[edit]

wow my apologies, I really shouldve looked into it before i said anything. Im a new user and once I saw that you made major edits to the Vernon Wells page I figured it were you. Sorry about that once again.ETod09 19:55, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mathematics CotW

[edit]

Hey Mat, I am writing you to let you know that the Mathematics Collaboration of the week(soon to "of the month") is getting an overhaul of sorts and I would encourage you to participate in whatever way you can, i.e. nominate an article, contribute to an article, or sign up to be part of the project. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks--Cronholm144 23:28, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Prod

[edit]

Expanded roster

[edit]

A "prod" template has been added to the article Expanded roster, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Matty j! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 7 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 5 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the unreferencedBLP tag. Here is the list:
